I've landed two commissions!

Before working with Lindy I was incredibly nervous about the prospect of pitching, and worried my pitches weren’t cohesive enough. My goal was simply to get to the point where I could pitch a publication.

I am thrilled to have pitched a bunch of publications AND had two commissions!

The practical advice from Lindy  gave me the confidence to press forward with ideas. When I heard back from an editor it was so reassuring to know that Lindy was there to offer advice and encouragement.

I’m so incredibly happy and I really can’t thank you enough Lindy!

I couldn't be more grateful for this transformative experience

I came into working with Lindy with a plan—a somewhat clear vision of what I wanted to do and the kinds of publications I wanted to work with.

And I just needed industry-insider information from Lindy to point me in the right direction.

But instead of offering a one-size-fits-all approach, Lindy is a master at excavation. She commits herself to truly getting to know you—your personality, your dreams, your goals.

The shifts I experienced have carried over into both my personal and professional worlds in ways I never anticipated.

At the end of working with Lindy, I told her that the value far outweighs the cost. And it’s true.

I couldn’t be more grateful for this transformative experience.

Working with Lindy has been the best investment in my writing I’ve ever made

Working with Lindy has been a revelation.

Despite working at a magazine years ago and having a grasp of how it works behind the curtain, I was out of practice and the prospect of crafting, let alone sending, a pitch was scary. I had grand notions of pitching important big-wig pubs, but my ideas felt massive and muddled, and my confidence was in the gutter.

The benefits of having Lindy’s expertise on hand to help navigate this process cannot be overstated. Being able to drop a voice note to brainstorm ideas and discuss prospective pitches at any time, knowing Lindy would return during her office hours with considered, encouraging and validating observations was a salve on my fragile mindset.

Her guidance and practical advice, from pitch to publication, helped me edge out the angst to pursue the stories I dreamt about writing.

Needless to say, it worked – my first pitch was commissioned by Guardian Australia – and I was over the moon about it!

What I appreciate most about Lindy’s teaching and mentoring is her profound care.

So much of writing is about overcoming our own inner critic, and Lindy’s position was unequivocal: no fear was too outlandish, no idea too broad it couldn’t be distilled and sharpened into a clear, defined angle (or, in many instances, several).

Working with Lindy has been the best investment in my writing I’ve ever made.

My first travel pitch got commissioned!

Since working with Lindy, my pitches have become more intriguing – and backed by current research or events – to entice the editor to want more.

The feedback from Lindy really helped me get better at identifying the specific ‘selling’ point of each pitch.

My knowledge and confidence around pitching has grown exponentially.

The best parts of working with Lindy was getting a commission, receiving responses from editors and growing my contact list. I also improved my sense of what certain publications want and how best to entice them.

The pitch critiques in particular were great. The final two that broke down my pitches into a series of points were particularly illuminating for complex story ideas.

And I got a commission from the first travel pitch I sent out!

Hi I’m Lindy…

I’m the founder of The Freelancer’s Year and award-winning freelance travel writer.

In 2012, I was on the outside looking in — desperate to write for my favourite travel magazines but with no clue how to break in.

I wasn’t a journalist. I had no connections. And I certainly wasn’t getting invited on press trips.

But I learned how to pitch strategically, write what editors actually wanted, and build relationships that led to consistent assignments.

Everything changed.

Instead of chasing opportunities, editors and PRs started coming to me. Now, most of my stories happen throughout editors offering me assignments and invitations to press trips.

And that’s exactly what I help other travel writers do.

Through The Travel Writing Accelerator, I teach travel writers how to land commissions, pitch with confidence, and build the kinds of relationships that lead to dream assignments and press trips — without constantly hustling for the next gig.

I know many travel editors like me would love to see more writers pitch like Lindy!

Lindy knows exactly what it takes to craft a successful pitch and is the ideal, experienced writer to teach others her story-winning techniques.

As the travel editor of delicious, I was always genuinely delighted to receive story pitches from Lindy. Not only were her pitches perfectly tailored to our publications (you could always tell she’d done her research!), but they were easy to follow and answered all my questions, which meant they never created extra work for me.

You’d be surprised how rare that is in a pitch. And I would receive more than 50 pitches a week at times!

I know many editors like myself who would love to see more writers pitch like Lindy does!
